Chapter 2: Don't Mess With Me

Joyce wasn't in a good mood when she walked into the new Sunnydale
Highschool. She had been called in by the Principal....a Mr. Jameson
or something. Dawn was in trouble.

*** Well at least I don't have to deal with that weasel Snyder
anymore. ***

Joyce had no misconceptions about the meeting. Dawn had done
something and the Principal had taken it way out of proportion. It
wasn't the first time it happened. Dawn was considered a bad seed for
the sole crime of being Buffy's sister.

Many of the teachers in the school had been the same ones that had
called Buffy a criminal. Now Dawn had them. On more then one
occasion a teacher had actually shuddered when Joyce walked into the
room.

*** And here I thought my daughter hadn't made her mark. ***

Joyce smiled at the thought but when she arrived at the main office
she was all business. The secretary took one look at her and then
pointed to the Mr. Jameson's office.

*** Ok so this isn't the first time I've been here. You don't have to
be rude about it. ***

"Well hello again, Mrs. Summers." Mr. Jameson smiled falsely.

Joyce ignored the man and walked to her daughter. Dawn was looking at
her feet trying to look inconspicuous.

"What happened, Dawn?"

"Your daughter got into a fight." Mr. Jameson replied.

"I didn't ask you." Joyce continued to look at her daughter, "Who did
you get into a fight with?"

"He started it." Dawn muttered.

"That's not what the other children said."

Joyce looked up at Mr. Jameson and frowned, "If my daughter said, he
started it then he started it."

"Mrs. Summers, we both know that your daughters have both gotten
themselves into their share of trouble...."

"Stop right there." Joyce said angrily, "This has nothing to do with
Buffy. You didn't even know her. And second, and don't look at me
like that. Trust me, Mr. Jameson, you don't scare me. You may scare
some of the other parents, but not me. "

"Who the Hell do you think you are!" Mr. Jameson said loudly.

"I'm Joyce Summers and you don't want to mess with me. So don't mess
with Dawn. If she does something wrong, then punish her accordingly
but NEVER and I mean NEVER punish her for something you think Buffy
did." Joyce turned to Dawn, "Come on Dawn." Joyce turned back to Mr.
Jameson, "Is Dawn suspended, expelled, excommunicated or what?"

Joyce noticed that Mr. Jameson was trying really hard not to lose it
completely, "She's suspended for three days."

Joyce just nodded and turned to walk away but before she left the
office she smiled sweetly at the Principal, "You know Mr. Snyder was
WAY scarier then you and he got eaten by a snake."

With that Joyce left the office and caught up to her daughter who at
her locker taking out some books.

"I'm sorry mom."

"He's a real jerk." Joyce smiled, "You didn't start it right?"

Dawn looked into her mother's eyes, "I didn't start it."

Joyce smiled again, "Ok lets go. By the way, you will be working in
the gallery for the next three days."

Dawn just groaned.

It had been nearly a week since she had last been to the Nightlife
bar. It had been nearly a week since she had been kissed by the woman
who's name she still didn't know. As she walked in she hoped that the
woman was there, so at least she could find out her name.

"Hey Joyce." Jen smiled, "You're usual."

"Sure why not." Joyce smiled.

"What happened between you and the woman you were talking to all
night?"

"Nothing much."

"Oh come on. Inquiring minds want to know." Jen handed Joyce a glass
of wine.

Joyce laughed, "I'm telling you. Nothing happened. I just walked her
to her car."

Jen laughed, "Joyce you really have to learn some new moves. How long
has it been?"

"Too long."

"Too long for what?"

Joyce turned around and saw the woman standing a few feet away from
her. Joyce immediately turned to Jen and gave her the 'if you tell
her I'll kill you look.' Jen returned the 'what did I do look.'

"Did I interrupt something?" The woman asked.

"No of course not. Jen and I just had a difference of opinion."

The woman smiled, "On what topic?"

"Joyce's sex life." Jen smiled victoriously. "Or her lack of it."

"I'm going to kill you Jen."

The woman smiled, "Not before she gets me a glass of wine. I really
need one."

--------------------------------------

Joyce woke up with a bit of a hangover. It took her a moment to
realize she wasn't in her own bed. It took her another to realize
someone was in bed with her.

*** Oh great. I have one too many and I wake up naked. ***

*** I wonder who I'm naked with. ***

Joyce opened her eyes hoping beyond hope that she was in bed with
someone human. She had once woken up in bed next to a ____ demon. To
her defense though the demon looked human, and the sex was rather
good.

*** I'm just never going to tell anyone about it. I'll never live it
down. ***

"Good morning Joyce." The woman smiled.

"Oh hello." Joyce stammered trying to remember if the woman had ever
given her name.

*** God Joyce you need help. What IS her name. ***

"Should I be worried?"

"Oh no, no." Joyce smiled, "Its just well...."

"What is it?"

"Uh...this may sound strange but...." Joyce paused, "What is your
name?"

The woman laughed, "You spent all last night asking me that. I guess
you were too drunk to remember."

"Was I that drunk?" Joyce asked worried.

"Too drunk to drive so I offered to take you home, but you didn't want
to go home."

"Why not?"

"Something about your daughters being out for the night and you didn't
want to go back to an empty house."

"Oh yeah. " Joyce looked at the woman again, "And we ended up here."

"Yeah." The woman smiled, "You told me I wasn't your type and then you
kissed me. The rest is as they say, history."

"Oh."

The woman laughed.

"What's so funny."

"I was just wondering what you do to people who ARE your type."

Joyce laughed, "Usually I ignore them until they go away."

"Why?"

"Well they eventually try to kill me and my daughters." Joyce laughed
when she saw the look on the woman's face, "Long story."

"I bet."

"Uhh.."

"My name?" The woman smiled.

"If you don't mind."

The woman laughed, "No I don't. The name's Maggie Walsh. It's a
pleasure to meet you."
