Anya or Joyce?

Students of Joyce, we need your opinion. Scholars have for literally minutes considered the following conundrum: is the picture below Anya or Joyce? Scroll down to read the Dictators' conclusions.

anya or joyce?

Well, obviously it's Anya, but the resemblance to the Bouffanted One is nevertheless amazing. As at least one observer has pointed out, she's in the classic "Do you really think you're ready?" pose from Surprise, but the similarities don't stop there. Professor Labouchere notes that, sartorially, her specific Joyce look is that of Xander's dream in Restless where Joyce attempts to seduce Xander with red clothing and fabulous hair, although he is distracted by the presence of lesbians.

In the episode from which this picture is taken, Storyteller, Anya succeeds in seducing Xander and there are also kissing lesbians. Given that Restless is famous for having oodles of foreshadowing is this yet another example of Joss hinting at storylines years in advance?

Dr Faithtastic's own thesis is that Anya's emotional state in The Body was made worse by the knowledge that only she can take on the mantle of the Confused Goddess. She will write up her findings in the forthcoming report: Is Anya Joyce: the Next Generation?

Any comments? Do send them in.

It seems we're not the only ones to see the similarity: here's what another student of Joyce has had to say:

Jason Barnett:
In the episode
Anne when Joyce is walking towards the door her face is half obscured in shadows. At this point I noticed a strong resemblance to Emma Caulfield.
